Survivor: Ghost Island Power Rankings—Week 9 with Brent Wolgamott

Matt Liguori ranks the players each week with a new guest in RHAP’s Survivor Power Rankings. This week Matt is joined by RHAP Big Brother Live Feed Correspondent, Brent Wolgamott!

Survivor: Ghost Island Week 9 Power Rankings

Another fun episode of Survivor for a LIVE KIA in the books! The implosion of Desiree’s game was more than enough to get the crowd in Boston into the episode and excited every step of the way. Not every big move can be a good move, so while Des tried to make something happen and failed, she made for some fun TV on her way out. I’m starting to have a clearer picture of what things look like going forward, since Kellyn’s game was just flipped upside down and we luckily lost another of the season’s under-edited characters. Plus, we’re losing two more players this week!

I wanted to throw in a big “thank you!” to everyone who had nice things to say about the power rankings last week in Boston. I’m still having fun doing them so it’s great to hear anybody at all is enjoying reading them.

My guest this week is a man who needs no introduction but I’ll give him one anyways, Big Brother Live Feed Correspondent and RuPaul’s Drag Race podcaster Brent Wolgamott! With BBCAN6 winding down and Drag Race ramping up, make sure you’re keeping up with all of Brent’s coverage. Plus, Brent was on this week’s episode of the RHAP B&B, so don’t miss that either! Follow Brent (@OneLuckyGay) and I (@mattliguori) on Twitter, tweet us to let us know what you think and/or leave a comment below!

1. Domenick
minus

The more people that leave who aren’t Dom or Wendell, the stronger these two look in terms of getting to the end and winning the whole thing. I’ll keep saying it every week until it’s gone, but Dom stilllll has that idol. Laurel hasn’t flipped things around just yet, so Dom’s path seems steady. Knocking out the right two players this week will be key in moving him and Wendell forward towards the finish line.

1. Domenick

Dom and Wendell seem to be the epicenter of everything happening on the island: they are part of original Naviti (“the family”, *gag*); they have links to old Malolo with Laurel and Donathan; and oh yeah, they each have an idol. But I place Dom at #1, because if he gets to the end, I think he wins. He’s the louder of the two, the bigger target, and probably the one who would command more respect.

2. Wendell
green-arrow3

It wasn’t the end of the world to not hear much from Wendell this week. He was safe while Naviti self-imploded and a move was made that was quietly beneficial to his game. Keep an eye on Laurel and continue marching forward, or your game might slip out from underneath you.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

2. Wendell

For my reasons stated above. If it’s not Dom, I think it will be Wendell. Wendell arguably has even more options than Dom, and is seen as likable, genuine, and smart. He’ll likely need to cut Dom to win though. But I think he knows that.

[one_half padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half]

3. Laurel
minus

Stressful week, eh? Laurel couldn’t have gotten any luckier than to get Desiree confiding in her to gain that information. While Dom and Wendell are tougher end-game opponents, she would never get to the final 3 with that block of Kellyn’s Naviti women sticking together. Finding a way to break that up couldn’t have worked out any better.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

3. Kellyn

I place Kellyn at #3 because she’s the head of the remnants of old Naviti (with Dom), and she has an entire cadre of women behind her. Beyond that, the editing of the show also indicates to me that Kellyn is in it for the final episodes, and I think there’s a good chance she’s pleading her case to the jurors. She has a story, and it could win her a million dollars.

[/one_half_last]

[one_half padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half]

4. Donathan
minus

Well well, look who found an idol! I mean, kind of. He did need his allies to all get together on the shelter in order to pull it all together, but it still counts. Donathan and Laurel continue to ride this sweet middle spot, and now with an idol in his possession, he’s looking great.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

4. Michael

Look, I don’t know how it happens. It would be easier for me to tell you all the reasons why Michael won’t win. But I just have a feeling about this guy. With a twist in play in the coming episode, there could be a reshuffling of power, and if that happens, Michael would be primed to take advantage. His astute gameplay and social game belies his age.

5. Sea Bass
green-arrow1

I’ll just use this space to talk about something totally random instead of wasting our time talking about the same thing (invisibility) over and over. So how about Val Collins and how legendary she is for being the first ever LIVE KIA boot, and how much of an honor it was to be in her presence last week in Boston. Val is an idol finding Survivor legend and I can’t wait until she gets the second chance she deserves.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

5. Laurel

I think that Laurel has a real shot to win, but is she frozen by not wanting to make a mistake? You have to take risks in “Survivor” and by not taking Desiree up on a plan to get the big 3 of Dom/Wendell/Kellyn (ironically, the top 3 players on my list) out of the game, I feel like she’s in a box now. She HAS to side with Dom & Wendell, but in order to win, she needs to cut them eventually; can she do both? I’m dubious.

[one_half padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half]

6. Jenna
green-arrow1

And I’ll use this space to tell a ridiculous story about a corny game my friends and I were playing at Fenway Park last week. Find a company logo and attach a Survivor player’s name to it. Some of my favorites were “Rachel Ako-ca cola,” “Samuel Adams Klein,” “Eddie Foxwoods,” “Dunkim Spradlin,” and of course “Will from Bank of America”. It’s a fun game, 10/10 would recommend. If you’re thinking “what a bunch of losers” we are, you’d be absolutely correct.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

6. Donathan

Donathan has about as much chance as Laurel to win the game, since I believe both their chances lie with sticking with Dom/Wendell in the short term, and cutting them later. I place Donathan below Laurel only because the players exiting the game seem to not respect him, and that doesn’t bode well for his F3 chances.

[/one_half_last]

[one_half padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half]

7. Kellyn
red-arrow5

Kellyn got BURIED in that edit. “I’m telling you, it’s never gonna happen” she said about her closest allies turning on her. Her insistence on keeping Naviti strong even when they were turning against her and she refused to believe it… just incredible. Where does she go now? Her #1 ally turned on her, so she has a lot of work to do.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

7. Angela

The last person remaining in the game who I think has ANY shot to win is Angela. She’s a feisty player who talks big and can play big. She seems to have the respect of her tribemates, but I don’t know what her path to the end looks like.  Chip away at Malolo, blindside Dom/Wendell, and cut Kellyn at the end?  Seems like it’s asking a lot of her.

[/one_half_last]

[one_half padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half]

8. Angela
minus

Angela still has no place in the story besides being one of the votes under Kellyn’s watch. With old Naviti clearly not sticking together, it seems like it’s fair game for anybody to go next and if Angela’s bad luck from Ghost Island follows her back to camp, she’s done for.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

8. Jenna

Really? If a miracle strikes and all the jurors are like Sebastian and like the smell of her hair, maybe.  Whatever. She ain’t winning.

[/one_half_last]

[one_half padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half]

9. Chelsea
minus

Now that it’s clear Desiree and Chelsea were turning on Kellyn, Kellyn has no reason to keep Chelsea around either. Chelsea just won an immunity challenge (which raised her threat level), and she’s now on the outs. Michael is still the top target, but Chelsea seems first in line if Michael’s immune.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

9. Sebastian

Who? Is this person even on the show, Liguori? He ain’t winning.

[/one_half_last]

[one_half padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half]

10. Michael
minus

The biggest target in the game makes it through without an idol or individual immunity thanks to a blow-up from Naviti. Whose to say that can’t happen again? It’s certainly possible, but it’s also possible Michael goes on an immunity run at any moment. I’m nowhere near counting him out to last a few more weeks, though his chances at getting to final 3 seem very slim.

[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 20px 0 20px”][one_half_last]

10. Chelsea

I’d rather give her a rank of “NO F’ING WAY”. There ain’t no way that someone this invisible can win Survivor in the modern age. She ain’t winning no how, no why, no way. Gurlbye!
